Wiper Seals are used to prevent the ingress of dirt into the cylinder. This prevents dirt from damaging the gland seals and from scratching the rod itself. As there is a large range of applications that use hydraulic cylinders, there is a range of rod wipers to cover the different applications. Heavy duty wipers are often manufactured with a rigid case for inserting onto an open groove. The case is either steel or rigid plastic with a wiper lip of usually 90 Shore Nitrile rubber or Polyurethane. Light to medium duty wipers are usually manufacturered for fitting into a closed groove and are flexible, normally the wiper is made from either 90 Shore Nitrile or Polyurethane. The Abbey Seals Ltd range of wipers is split into two main groups - Rigid wipers and Flexible wipers.
